This is the first contested mayoral contest in Elmwood since 2009, when John “JD’ Hulslander, then 32, defeated Bob Howard. Hulslander served two terms, before outgoing mayor Bryan Davis took over. The other candidates are Brandon Butler, 36, David Courson, 76, and Dave Ramsay, 56. Courson also served as Elmwood mayor, from 1979-83. Elmwood man killed in Springfield shooting SPRINGFIELD – Former Elmwood resident Daniel Kinney, 24, was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body when Springfield Police arrived at the scene of a call in the 900 block of Griffiths Avenue on March 15 at about 9:09 p.m. Kinney was pronounced dead at the scene from the gunshot wound. Farmers, Princes, Trojans all win By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post GALESBURG – Fourth down plays decided a hard-hitting season opener between the Farmington and Knoxville football teams Saturday. Three times Farmington quarterback Josh McMillin managed to complete touchdown passes on fourth-down plays to account for his team’s scoring. And with the game on the line, Farmington’s defense stopped Knoxville on fourth-and-three from the Farmington 26-yard line with under a minute left to preserve a 20-14 win. Carlson finishes hoops career 495-205 By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post After a successful 24-year varsity coaching career during which he won 495 games and a Class 1A state championship, Scott Carlson has retired from coaching at Brimfield High School. Carlson coached his 700th varsity game last Friday in a 59-41 season-ending loss to Knoxville.
