Full slate of July 4 events

Galva’s Freedom Fest is among the many local events scheduled for the July 4 weekend. The three-day Freedom Fest culminates Monday, July 4, with a fireworks show at dusk by Pyrotecnico at the Galva Park District. Prior to that there is a busy slate of events (highlighted in the schedule at left) in Galva, with activities for all ages and plenty of food, including Messiah Lutheran Church hosting its 30th annual pork chop supper July 3 from 5-7 p.m. at Wiley Park. Bailey, Sampson, Watkins winners in Illinois primary

By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post Gov. JB Pritzker will find out Nov. 8 whether spending millions to pick his Republican foe was a good idea or not. Unofficial results show State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) won the Republican gubernatorial primary held Tuesday. With 58 percent of the vote counted, Bailey led a crowded Republican field with 56.9 percent of the vote. Jesse Sullivan was at 15.9 percent and Richard Irvin was running third at 15.5 percent. Farmington raises meal prices

By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post FARMINGTON – The Farmington School Board approved an amended budget and other items for the 2022-23 school year. Among those were increasing meal prices: $2.75 for Pre-K to Grade 8 lunch; $2.95 for high school lunch; 35 cents for milk; $1.90 for breakfast. The board also approved Inter-State Studios as district photographer, a Physical Restraint and Isolation Reduction Plan, Mobex Laboratory for on-site testing and Heart Technologies for technology services. Princeville hires new manager for pool

By NICK VLAHOS For The Weekly Post PRINCEVILLE – After a gap of about a year, a member of the Rice family again is managing the Princeville Aquatic Center. Landon Rice of Princeville assumed the part-time position in mid-June, according to Village Trustee Teresa Gilroy. She leads the committee that oversees the village-owned swimming facility, located at 620 Princeville Ave. Rice is heading into his senior year at Knox College in Galesburg, where he is a defensive lineman on the football team.
