Stark Co. school board hires principal

WYOMING – The Stark County School board hired Michael McGovern as an assistant principal as part of several personnel moves made at its monthly meeting on March 21.

After meeting in closed session, the board approved McGovern to replace Anne Snyder as Assistant Principal for the Junior/Senior high school. McGovern was unavailable for questions until next week.

The board accepted several resignations: from Lonnie Dennison as director of transportation and all coaching positions; from Amy DeBoerver as district clerical; from Sherry LaPayne as assistant cook; and from Emile Hahn as high school English teacher.

The board also approved hiring Toni Nowlan as interim transportation director, Elizabeth Dietz as a kindergarten teacher, Rachel Kellogg as a third grade teacher and Danielle Hall as district clerical. Melissa Jackson was approved to be promoted from assistant to head of the Student Council.

In sports, approval was given to Kim Becker as volunteer junior varsity track coach, Tim Giesenhagen from JV to varsity baseball coach, Donald Peterson as JV baseball coach, Dylan Miller as assistant high school football coach, Cody Minder as head junior high football coach and Cade Tuthill as volunteer junior high football coach.

In his report, School Superintendent Brett Elliot announced that the annual Spring Musical will be held March 31 through April 3. May 18 is the eighth grade promotion ceremony. Spring Break is April 11-18 with school resuming on April 19.

The Rebel mascot redesign campaign submissions are due March 31 and the first round of voting on the designs is scheduled from April 1-18.

In addition, Elliot said that the emergency plan meeting for the schools was held and another will occur once the new high school building is open.

Construction on the new high school is 55 percent complete with the final wall having been installed March 16.

Other action included approval of bus bids with Midwest Bus Sales being the winning bidder. Midwest will supply leased busses to the school district. M&M Lawn Service was approved to maintain the football field and surrounding property at a rate of $45 per hour.
