Galva’s Freedom Fest is among the many local events scheduled for the July 4 weekend.
The three-day Freedom Fest culminates Monday, July 4, with a fireworks show at dusk by Pyrotecnico at the Galva Park District. Prior to that there is a busy slate of events (highlighted in the schedule at left) in Galva, with activities for all ages and plenty of food, including Messiah Lutheran Church hosting its 30th annual pork chop supper July 3 from 5-7 p.m. at Wiley Park. Sandwiches are $4, add chips and drink for $1. Rain location is at the church.
The band High Jinx plays Saturday from 5-7 p.m. in beer tent at Galva Park District, featuring coversfrom the 1980s to today with an alternative flair. Also Saturday from 6-8 at the Wiley Park bandshell is an open mic and the John Sloan Memorial Coffeehouse.
Also, the Galva American Legion is asking for help to put the Avenue of Flags up on July 4. Anyone who can help, is asked to come to the building behind Subway at 6 a.m. or go to the Galva Cemetery at 6:15 a.m. Flags will be taken down at 4 p.m. and anyone who can help is asked to come to the Galva Cemetery.
Also Friday, July 1, will be a free day at the Galva Pool courtesy of Scott Caravello and the Galva Pharmacy.
Other July 4 events include:
• Oak Run Fireworks – Oak Run’s annual show is Saturday, July 2, starting at dusk.
• Wyoming Fireworks – Fireworks are held Sunday, July 3, at Gary Johnson football field at dusk. Food will be sold starting at 4 p.m. by the Wyoming Lions Club. The menu calls for pork chops, hot dogs, popcorn and drinks.
• Lake Calhoun Breakfast – Lake Calhoun Country Club near LaFayette opens to the public for a July 4 breakfast, 7:30-10:30 a.m.
