Police Reports
• ELMWOOD – Someone has been stealing signs in and near Elmwood that advertise a Yates City-area landscaping business, according to authorities.
Signs for Johnston Landscaping were reported missing about 9:30 a.m. Sept. 15 from the 800 block of W. Main St. in Elmwood and at Illinois Routes 8 and 78 north of the city.
The business owner estimated the signs were worth about $600, according to an Elmwood Police Department report.
The thefts began in June 2022, the business owner stated. He has erected a motion camera in a tree along Main Street in hopes of recording the apparent perpetrator, according to the report.
• NORWOOD – A rear-end collision in Norwood resulted in no injuries to a Brimfield woman and her three passengers.
Kristin E. McGraw was driving a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica that was stopped on westbound Farmington Road at Norwood Road when a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt struck her vehicle, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The Cobalt driver was Liberty M. Gordon-Church of Peoria.
McGraw said she was attempting to turn onto northbound Norwood Road. Gordon-Church said she attempted to brake but was unable to stop in time. She was uninjured.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, per the report. Gordon-Church’s vehicle was towed, but McGraw drove away hers.
• EDWARDS – No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle wreck in front of a U.S. Post Office near Edwards.
The accident happened about 1:45 p.m. Sept. 7 at 10112 W. Dubois Rd., according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Lacey J. Wilson of Marquette Heights said she was stopped and preparing to turn from the post-office access road onto Dubois Road in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze when an incoming 2014 Toyota RAV4 struck her vehicle.
The other driver, who was westbound on Dubois Road, was Christopher M. Kinney of Peoria.
Kinney said he didn’t see Wilson’s vehicle, according to the report. Wilson said she believed Kinney cut the turn onto the access road too tightly. The Cruze sustained a damaged front bumper and a broken driver’s-side light. The RAV4’s front-right tire area was damaged. Neither vehicle was towed.
• OAK RUN – A Galesburg woman’s vehicle was damaged after she drove into a rockpile at the west edge of Oak Run.
The single-vehicle accident happened at 9 a.m. June 7, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report filed recently. Tiffany A.M. Richmond, 30, was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer east on Knox Road 1760 North near Knox Road 1400 East when her vehicle hit the rocks.
Knox Road 1760 North was under maintenance and the rockpile had not been smoothed, the report stated. It did not specify the damage, which exceeded $1,500. Richmond reported no injuries, and she was able to drive away.
• KICKAPOO – At 5:15 a.m. Sept. 14, David W. Purtle of Brimfield was driving an eastbound 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse on U.S. Route 150 near Schlink Road west of Kickapoo when the vehicle struck a deer.
Purtle said he wasn’t injured, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated.
The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage but appeared drivable, although Purtle planned to have it towed.
The deer was killed.
• GLASFORD – At 7 p.m. Sept. 10, Dylan L. Massey of Farmington was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado east in the 14900 block of U.S. Route 24 west of Glasford when the vehicle struck a deer.
Neither Massey nor his two passengers reported injuries, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle was not towed. Its passenger-side bumper struck the deer, which was removed from the pavement.
• ELMWOOD – Dalton L. Sander, 18, of Elmwood was arrested at 4 a.m. Sept. 22 and accused of burglary and criminal damage to property between $500 and $10,000, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• HANNA CITY – Rocky L. Williams, 43, of Hanna City was arrested at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 and accused of two counts of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• WYOMING – Kimberly J. Humes, 37, of Wyoming was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. Sept. 20 and accused of retail theft of merchandise worth more than $300, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• GALESBURG – These were among calls to which the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded between Sept. 10-16: abandoned vehicle, Dahinda.
