• PEORIA – A Bartonville man is to serve 70 days in the Peoria County Jail in connection with an animal-abuse case last year in Princeville.

Stephen D. Kalb, 42, also was sentenced to two years of probation June 5 in Peoria County Circuit Court, according to a report from WMBD-TV in Peoria.

Kalb pleaded guilty in April to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals. His former girlfriend, Stacy Mueller, pleaded guilty one month earlier to that charge and received two years of probation.

In May 2023, authorities found a dozen dogs locked in a shed behind Mueller’s Princeville residence. One dog was dead, and others were covered in feces and flies. Including cats, 21 living animals were removed from the shed and the residence.

• FARMINGTON – A traffic stop in Farmington resulted in two Peorians being detained for various offenses.

Kalvin C. Hansen, 24, was driving a 2016 Nissan Maxima when a Farmington police officer pulled it over about 10:15 p.m.
June 1 in the 800 block of E. Fort St. The vehicle’s registration lights were not working, according to a police report.

Hansen said he did not have a driver’s license; a check revealed it was suspended. The check also revealed Hansen’s passenger, 22-year-old Olivia M. Johnson, was wanted in McDonough County for driving under the influence of alcohol.

After she paid $830 in fines and impound fees, Johnson was released and given a notice to appear June 19 in court in Macomb. Hansen also was released but was cited for driving with a suspended license and for driving with no registration light. He is to appear July 5 in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown.


• FARMINGTON – A Farmington man went from mowing his yard to being arrested for failure to appear in court.

Farmington police detained Thomas A. Magner, 51, after an officer observed him cutting grass about 4:45 p.m. May 26 in the first block of N. Main St.

A check revealed Magner was wanted in Fulton County regarding a charge of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle.

Magner was released and given a notice to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown.

• PRINCEVILLE – A motor scooter was reported stolen in Princeville. A heavily redacted Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report indicated the Hiboy S2 Pro Scooter was taken about noon May 25 from Casey’s, 105 E. Spring St. A 21-year-old man was identified as the victim.

The scooter was valued at $470.

• OAK RUN – No injuries were reported after a two-vehicle crash in Oak Run. Shortly after 2:45 p.m. May 25, Kathy J. Allen, 40, of London Mills was driving a northbound 2016 Jeep Patriot on Brentwood Lane when at Lakeview Road North it collided with a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. A 17-year-old Naperville girl was the other driver, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.

Both vehicles were drivable.

• ELMWOOD – An electric-current discharge caused a power pole in Elmwood to catch fire, according to authorities. First responders were summoned about 7:45 p.m. May 24 in the 200 block of E. Evergreen St., according to an Elmwood Police Department report. Firefighters couldn’t act immediately because of live power lines.

Ameren Illinois responded about 8:30 p.m. and replaced the pole, which included a transformer. Replacement was completed by 3 a.m. May 25, the report stated.

• BRIMFIELD – Donald J. Wozniak, 35, of Brimfield was arrested shortly after 4:15 p.m. June 4 and accused of domestic battery/physical contact, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• EDWARDS – Audi L. Huff, 52, of Edwards was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. June 1 and accused of two counts of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• ELMWOOD – Chief Aaron Bean reported the following Elmwood Police Department activity for May: two arrests, two traffic stops, six warnings, five ordinance violations and 17 reports.

• FARMINGTON – Chief Chris Darsham reported the following Farmington Police Department activity for May: 294 business checks, 4,380 building checks, one crash, one property crime, 19 traffic tickets, 13 ordinance violations, two crimes against people, 38 traffic stops, eight arrests, 415 calls, 10 reports, 13 assists to other police departments and seven miscellaneous items.

• WILLIAMSFIELD – Chief James Robertson reported the following Williamsfield Police Department activity for May: one burglary-trespass report and one animal complaint.

• GALESBURG – These were among calls to which the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded between May 26-June 1: fire, Yates City; burglary, Yates City; disturbance, Yates City.
