It also resulted in multiple citations after one of the passengers lied about who was driving, according to authorities.
Jared A. Gould, 18, of Kewanee was driving a northbound 2010 GMC Sierra pickup truck at about 3 p.m. in the 2900 block of Knox Road 1800 East when the vehicle struck a mud hole and he lost control.
The vehicle rolled across two sets of train tracks and landed on its wheels, per a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report. Gould said he was going at least 60 mph on the dirt road. Paramedics treated him at the scene.
Initially, one of Gould’s four passengers – Duane S. Clague Jr., 19, of Kewanee – was identified as the driver, and he received two citations. Later, a passenger contacted the sheriff’s office to say Gould was driving. Clague said he was trying to help Gould, who had a suspended driver’s license.
The original citations against Clague were voided, but he was cited for obstructing an officer. Gould was cited for obstructing an officer, careless/reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and driving without valid insurance. He is to appear Sept. 4 in Knox County Circuit Court in Galesburg.
