• HANNA CITY – No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle wreck west of Hanna City.
Michael A. Kolowoski of Elmwood was behind the wheel of a 1996 International truck that stopped shortly before 3 p.m. Oct. 26 on Hanna City-Eden Road at Eden Road before it backed into a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated.
Nancy L. Lenox of Yates City was the other driver. Kolowoski said another truck was attempting to pull onto Hanna City-Eden Road, so he backed up to create space. He checked his mirrors and saw nothing. When the truck began to back up, Lenox attempted to, too, but not quickly enough.
Lenox’s vehicle sustained substantial front-end damage but was drivable. So was the truck, which sustained minor rear-end damage.
• ELMWOOD – An Elmwood teenager required a hospital trip following a two-vehicle accident.
The 16-year-old boy was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was exiting the parking lot of Casey’s, 811 E. Main St., at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25 when he lost control of his eastbound vehicle on wet pavement once it entered the roadway, according to an Elmwood Police Department report.
After the vehicle traversed a ditch and hit a tree, it crashed into a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan sport-utility vehicle that was parked at Dollar General, across Main Street from Casey’s. Brenda J. Keener, 65, of Abingdon owned the unoccupied SUV, the report stated.
The boy was transported by ambulance to Graham Hospital in Canton. No injuries were specified.
• FARMINGTON – A garage fire in Farmington spread to a nearby occupied house, but no injuries were reported. The blaze began about 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at 249 N. East St., according to the Farmington Community Fire Protection District.
Firefighters found a detached garage engulfed in flames. It didn’t take long for the fire to be brought under control. The house sustained minimal damage. The garage was a total loss.
No damage estimate was available. The fire cause is under investigation. Firefighters from the Copperas Creek, Elba-Salem, Elmwood and Logan-Trivoli departments assisted. Among others responding were the Farmington Police Department and the Fulton County Emergency Services Disaster Agency.
• BRIMFIELD – A Brimfield man was accused of domestic battery in connection with an incident at an area residence.
A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched about 7 p.m. Oct. 19 to the 11700 block of N. Thousand Dollar Rd. regarding the incident, which happened earlier. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified, according to sheriff’s-office reports that were heavily redacted.
Jason R. Dana, 38, was arrested about 1 p.m. the following day and transported to the Peoria County Jail. There was one victim and at least two witnesses, the report stated.
• KICKAPOO – An apparently accidental fire in a ravine north of Kickapoo resulted in no injuries nor damage to buildings, according to authorities.
The fire in the 12700 block of N. Princeville-Jubilee Rd. was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Oct. 19, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The property owner said she was burning paper, leaves and limbs in a pile, then poured water on it and went inside her residence about 11 a.m.
According to the report, the property owner didn’t know the ravine was on fire until a sheriff’s-office deputy knocked on her door. A neighbor noticed the fire and notified authorities. Firefighters from the Akron-Princeville, Brimfield and Dunlap departments responded.
• ELMWOOD – Law-enforcement authorities detained an Elmwood man after he was accused of threatening to shoot someone.
Austin E. Foster, 30, was implicated in the incident, which happened about 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at a residence in the 300 block of N. Althea St. There was a witness and two potential victims, one from Elmwood and one from Peoria, according to a heavily redacted Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Foster received a notice to appear Nov. 27 in Peoria County Circuit Court regarding a disorderly-conduct charge. He also was barred from the Althea Street address.
• KICKAPOO – An Edwards man appeared to avoid injury from a single-vehicle rollover accident east of Kickapoo. Shortly before 7 a.m. Oct. 18, Jack W. Bowers was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck east in the 7300 block of U.S. Route 150 when the vehicle’s steering wheel began to shake, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated.
Bowers attempted to turn to the right side of the road, but the vehicle spun and rolled into a ditch, where it landed on its roof. The vehicle sustained roof and windshield damage, and was towed.
• OAK RUN – A planter box next to a residential garage in Oak Run was burned, but the cause was undetermined. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17 regarding the incident in the 400 block of Greenbriar Court, where a deputy responded.
There was no apparent damage to the vinyl siding on the garage, nor burn marks on the driveway. A vehicle parked next to the planter box also appeared unscathed.
The deputy told the 74-year-old homeowner that criminal damage could not be ruled out, but light refracted off windows or mirrors might have caused a fire.
• YATES CITY – A Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy was uninjured following a single-vehicle accident north of Yates City.
Byron L. Glover, 26, of Galesburg was driving a westbound 2019 Ford Taurus shortly before 7 p.m. Oct. 16 on Knox Road 550 North at Knox Highway 18 when the sheriff’s-office vehicle left the pavement to the right on a curve. The vehicle then hit a ditch and came to a stop, according to a sheriff’s-office report.
An ambulance responded, but Glover refused transport. The vehicle sustained more than $1,500 in damage to its front bumper and undercarriage and was towed.
• WILLIAMSFIELD – A purse that contained an unidentified drug was found in the parking lot of a Williamsfield medical facility.
An employee of the Graham Medical Group clinic at 120 E. Gale St. found the brown purse about 1 p.m. Oct. 14, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report. A white, crystal-like substance was inside the purse. The employee placed the purse in a biohazard bag, then gave it to a sheriff’s-office deputy, the report stated.
• GALESBURG – A Yates City man wanted for failure to appear in court was arrested outside the Knox County Courthouse. Chance D. Blankers, 37, was taken into custody shortly after 2 p.m. Oct. 10, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report. He was wanted regarding a case of theft with value of more than $500. Blankers was transported to the Knox County Jail.
• WILLIAMSFIELD – Shortly after 9:45 p.m. Oct. 11, Jessica L. Huffman, 26, of Hanna City was driving a 2017 Mercedes-Benz 180 on westbound Interstate 74 near mile marker 67 south of Williamsfield when the vehicle struck a deer. Huffman refused medical treatment, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report. Despite front-end and passenger-side damage of more than $1,500, the vehicle was drivable.
