ELMWOOD – When you give free T-shirts to elementary school students for a photograph, it’s wise to wait until the day of the picture to hand over the shirts.
That savvy strategy was among the many steps that made last week’s latest celebration of “The Trojan Way” a success.
After donning new orange shirts emblazoned with The Trojan Way logo, the entire Elmwood Elementary School assembled on the football field last Friday morning to form in the shape of an “E” for a picture.
“The Elementary Parents Club had the idea of providing shirts as a constant reminder of the Trojan Way,” Superintendent Joel Schmieg said. “They said it was important that there be no charge and that all kids get a shirt.”
Schmieg said the Trojan Way is a set of core values that define the culture and expectations of the school and community. Words associated with the TROJAN acronym are Tradition, Hardworking, Positive, Journey, Caring and Excellence.
To make sure the picture went well, Elementary School Principal Marcy Brugger and her family spray-painted white lines in the shape of an E, inside which students and staff members assembled.
“To me personally, this picture is going to capture just how wonderful our students and staff are,” Brugger said. “How they come together and care for each other.”
Schmieg said timing of the photo is also good because the school district is releasing information on its new strategic plan next month.
