Incidents & Accidents
5-26 – A single-vehicle accident occurred on Route 40 approximately a quarter of a mile north of 1700N. The driver involved was identified as Grace E. Merritt, 25, Iowa City, Iowa. Merritt was traveling south on Rte. 40 when she left the roadway after negotiating a curve. The vehicle struck a sign and then an embankment before rolling. No injuries were reported to the driver or two additional passengers. No tickets were issued but the estimated vehicle damages were reported at over $1,500.
5-26 – A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of 650E and 1750N at 7:40 a.m. Driver Kahla M. Martinez, 30, Wyoming, was traveling north on 650E as she approached the intersection and failed to stop.
Upon entering the intersection Martinez struck a vehicle being driven by Sharece F. Jones, 45, of Kewanee, who was traveling west on the Osceola Road. Upon impact Jones vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on the north side of the road in a field. No injuries were reported but Martinez was cited for disobeying a stop sign. Estimated damages to both vehicles was over $1,500.
6-1 – A deer-related vehicle accident occurred on Route 78, about a quarter of a mile north of 1100N. The driver involved was Alex M. Ingle, 29, of Galva. No injuries were reported but the vehicle sustained over $1,500 in estimated damages.
6-3 – Joshua R. Kelch, 25, Edwards, was arrested for speeding 80 mph in a 55 mph zone and for driving on a revoked driver’s license. He posted $250 cash bond and was released with a court date to appear.
Peoria County Report
5-5 – An Edelstein man declined medical attention following a two-vehicle accident near South Rome, but a passenger required a visit to a Peoria hospital.
The wreck happened shortly after 3 p.m. May 25 in the 2300 block of E. Wilkens Drive. According to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report, Anthony M. Rowcliff was driving a 2016 Nissan stopped in the westbound roadway when a 2007 Toyota rear-ended it. The other driver was Jeremiah J. Leflore of Peoria.
Rowcliff didn’t say why his vehicle stopped, the report stated. Of his two passengers, a male was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, with unspecified injuries. The other passenger, a female, declined medical transport, as did Leflore.

5-31 – After a traffic stop in the 1100 block of SE 2nd St., Brett Pagan, 35, Abingdon, was arrested for operating a vehicle with suspended registration for no insurance. He was released with a court date.

6-1 – As the result of a traffic stop in the 00 block of SW 2nd St., Annette Krasuki, 35, Springfield, was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to transfer title upon ownership and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released with a required court date.
