Police reports
• PRINCEVILLE – A Princeville man admitted guilt regarding an apparent domestic-violence incident.

Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched about 11:15 a.m. Oct. 4 to a residence in the 6000 block of Illinois Route 90. A telephone call from a 10-year-old indicated Marco A. Pequeno Jr., 40, was beating up an unidentified person, according to a redacted sheriff’s-office report.

Accused of unlawful restraint and domestic battery/bodily harm, Pequeno was transported to the Peoria County Jail. But he was deemed unfit medically to be confined, another report stated.

Pequeno complained about left-leg pain that radiated up his back.
Pequeno said the victim sideswiped him with her vehicle. When asked why he didn’t inform authorities about the injury, Pequeno said he didn’t want to get the victim in trouble. He also said he was at fault. Pequeno was transported to Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria for treatment.

• EDWARDS – A Farmington man said he was uninjured following a single-vehicle wreck west of Edwards.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 29, Calvin C. Rudd was driving a 2023 Kia Forte east in the 11900 block of W. Cottonwood Rd. when he looked away to adjust the vehicle radio. When Rudd looked up, the vehicle had drifted onto the shoulder, then he overcorrected, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated.

The vehicle veered into the opposite lane and into a ditch. Rudd declined medical treatment. The vehicle sustained disabling damage to its undercarriage and front passenger-side tire and was towed.

• ELMWOOD – A single-vehicle accident resulted in a hospital visit for an Elmwood man.

Allen L. Swindler, 78, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck about 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the 7700 block of N. Jarman St. when an unidentified vehicle in the opposite direction caused him to swerve off the roadway, according to an Elmwood Police Department report.

Swindler’s vehicle damaged a yard and struck a parked 2014 Ford Focus, then came to rest in a ditch. Swindler complained about back pain and was transported to Graham Hospital in Canton. The pickup truck was towed to Swindler’s residence.

• LAURA – A Laura resident appeared to avoid serious injury from a two-vehicle crash north of her hometown. Jaclyn M. Colgan, 18, was driving north Sept. 25 on Illinois Route 78 and was attempting to turn left at Township Road 00 North when another northbound vehicle rear-ended hers, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. Valerie R. Wilbourn, 38, of Loves Park was the other driver.

Colgan’s vehicle crossed over the southbound lane of Route 78 and landed in a ditch. First responders treated Colgan at the scene. An ambulance transported Wilbourn to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

• BELLEVUE – A Hanna City woman was cited following a two-vehicle accident that resulted in the other driver needing hospital treatment.

Linda S. Brophy was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox stopped at 9 p.m. Sept. 25 on the westbound Interstate 474 spur at Maxwell Road when she attempted a southbound turn. Her vehicle then collided with a northbound 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle piloted by Carl E. Koontz of Peoria.

Koontz was lying on the pavement when a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived. Koontz had minor head lacerations and complained about left-arm and shoulder pain, according to a sheriff’s-office report. An ambulance transported Koontz to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Brophy was ticketed for failure to yield right of way. She was uninjured. Her vehicle sustained minor damage.

• HANNA CITY – A Hanna City residence was the site of an attempted burglary, according to authorities.

A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. Sept. 24 to the 100 block of Balagna Court. The report was heavily redacted, but it appeared someone attempted to remove a screen from a window. Damage was estimated at $75.

• DAHINDA – An Oak Run man stopped for speeding near Dahinda was wanted regarding a 2022 contempt-of-court case.

Robert L. Richardson, 27, was driving a westbound black Cadillac 71 mph in a 55-mph zone shortly before 1 p.m. Sept. 23 in the 1500 block of U.S Route 150, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.

A check revealed a Fulton County warrant for failure to appear in court. Richardson was arrested and transported to the Knox County Jail in Galesburg. He also was cited for reckless/careless driving.

• OAK HILL – Someone broke a lock on a gate at a property south of Oak Hill, authorities stated.

The damage was reported about 10 a.m. Sept. 19 in the 18800 block of W. Bartholomew Lane. A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy drove to the gate entrance and noticed a broken piece of the chain lock, according to a report.

• KICKAPOO – A single-vehicle wreck west of Kickapoo resulted in a Williamsfield woman requiring hospital attention.

Jody J. Schubert was driving an eastbound 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck shortly before 9 a.m. Sept. 18 in the 11500 block of U.S. Route 150 when the vehicle veered off the road to the north, struck a mailbox and swerved south into heavy brush at the bottom of an embankment.

Schubert said she was distracted because she dropped a lit cigarette into her lap, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. An ambulance transported Schubert, who complained about overall pain, to Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

• KICKAPOO – Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2, Kathleen A. Humphreys of Princeville was driving a northbound 2020 Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle in the 11500 block of N. Princeville-Jubilee Rd. north of Kickapoo when the vehicle struck a deer. Humphreys said she wasn’t injured, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The vehicle sustained damage to its driver’s-side door and a broken driver’s-side headlight but was drivable.

• DAHINDA – Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29, Jason W. Hayes, 45, of Maquon was driving an eastbound Knox County Sheriff’s Office vehicle on Knox Road 1200 North southwest of Dahinda when it struck a deer. Hayes was uninjured, according to a sheriff’s-office report. The vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, sustained minor damage and was drivable.

• BRIMFIELD – Shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 24, Caitlin M. Harkness of Brimfield was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata west on U.S. Route 150 at Fox Creek Drive southeast of Brimfield when the vehicle stuck a deer. Harkness said she wasn’t injured, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle sustained disabling front-end and hood damage and was towed.

• ELMWOOD – Chief Aaron Bean reported the following Elmwood Police Department activity for September: two traffic stops, two warnings, 10 reports and one ordinance violation.

• YATES CITY – Yates City Police Chief Randy Benson reported the following activity for September: 19 reports, eight traffic stops, six warnings, three citations, one arrest, one open door and one ordinance violation.

• GALESBURG – These were among calls to which the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded between Sept. 22-28: suspicious incident, Williamsfield; suspicious incident, Dahinda; domestic disturbance, Williamsfield; domestic disturbance, Yates City; suspicious person, Yates City; two road hazards, Williamsfield; custody dispute, Dahinda; suspicious vehicle, Williamsfield; vehicle fire, Williamsfield; two juvenile-trouble incidents, Dahinda.
