Bradford may need recount for president

Without a hotly contested presidential duel to fuel turnout, Tuesday’s consolidated election saw light voter turnout at most polling places and very few contested races in central Illinois.
But there were still some races of interest, particularly in Bradford, where one election was as close as they come.
According to Stark County’s website, the unofficial voting results shows that the Bradford Village President’s race is so close that a possible recount may be looming. Candidates Bob Boehm and John Cler, both village trustees, ran for the president’s four year term position.
The current unofficial tally shows that Cler has won the election by one vote, 60-59. Neither candidate could be reached by phone at press time.
Whomever is officially announced as the winner will replace Village President Henry Waldinger who did not seek another term.
In the race for the Black Hawk College trustee positions, four candidates ran for three positions available.
Fritz W. Larsen of Moline, Kimberly L. Stevens of La Fayette, and Jeffrey M. Swan of Colona were elected to six-year terms on the Black Hawk College Board.
Larsen, the current board chair, was re-elected to his second term, while Stevens and Swan were elected to their first terms on the board. They replace Joseph B. Swan, of Colona and Richard P. Fiems, of Port Byron both of whom did not seek re-election.
The Black Hawk College district includes all or part of nine counties in west central Illinois. Those counties are Bureau, Henderson, Knox, Marshall, Mercer, Rock Island, Stark and Whiteside.
