Stark Co. girls XC 9th at Bureau Valley

WALNUT – Ashley Orrick and Paige Rewerts both earned trophies Saturday and the Stark County girls cross country team placed ninth at the 19-team Dale Donner Invitational.

Orrick (21st, 20:50) and Rewerts (30th, 21:40) brought home trophies for finishing in the top 30 and were followed in the scoring list by teammates Kokone Kasaya (61st, 23:12), Keagan Hamilton (69th, 23:37) and Nina Longabaugh (78th, 24:17). Also competing for the girls were Sarah Kraklow (133rd, 28:28) and Katie Grinnell (154th, 31:37).

Orrick’s time was the fifth fastest by a Rebel girl on the notoriously slow Bureau Valley course since records started in 2016 while Rewert’s time was the seventh fastest.

In the boys race, Alex Welch (44th, 18:48) posted the fastest time ever at Bureau Valley for a Rebel boy since records started in 2016. Colby Carroll (96th, 20:55) and Jack Winans (98th, 21:13) were the other boys runners.

The girls team cut its 1-5 spread by more than a minute, dropping from 4:29 to 3:27, according to Coach Bob Rennick Jr.

 The Rebels will run next on Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Kewanee Boiler Invite at Baker Golf Course starting at 9:30 a.m.

Stark County Golf

The Rebels won a three-team match Sept. 15 at Lake Calhoun Country Club with 189 strokes to top Ridgewood (199) and Bushnell (212). James Groter, Jack Colgan and Jimmy Langdon shot 47 while Colin Streitmatter fired a 48.

The Rebels placed third on Sept. 14 at Edgewood Golf Club with 191 strokes behind Henry (188) and Putnam County (190). Groter led with a 44, while Langdon and Colgan shot 47 and Streitmatter and Keagan Newton were at 53.

Stark County Volleyball

Stark County fell to Monmouth United 25-3, 25-10 on Monday in a Lincoln Trail match at home. Lauren West was the ace leader for the Lady Rebels. Tori Hawley and Payton Hillier each had four digs in the effort.

Stark County participated in Saturday’s Princeville Invitational. The team came up short to eventual champion Princeville (21-9, 21-9) fell in three to Peoria Heights (14-21, 22-20, 18-20) and lost to third-place Elmwood (21-8, 22-6).

Kylee Frisby led Stark County in kills and blocks on the day and was named to the all-tournament team. Frisby was followed by Shanna Peterson and Abby Ince on kills.

The Lady Rebels fell to Midland on Sept. 14, 25-17, 25-23 in non-conference competition. Frisby had three kills, two blocks and one ace. Peterson got two blocks and two aces.

Stark County is home vs. Wethersfield in a LTC match Monday.

Galva Volleyball

Galva (4-12) dropped a 25-21, 25-16 decision to non-conference foe Henry on Monday at home.

Lexi Stone was busy in the effort with five assists, six digs and five points. Kali Yelm had five points. Alexis Spivey scored on three kills. Sarah Kaiser got one ace. Ava Strom had four blocks and three kills.

The Lady Wildcats were defeated by a tough Annawan squad 25-13, 25-8 on Sept. 15 in Lincoln Trail action. Stone collected four assists. Kendall Rogers killed two. Jenna Suddeth had five digs.

Galva next takes on Lincoln Trail rival Mercer County on Monday.

Galva Golf

Jaxson Willer was medalist on Sept. 15 with a 4-over-par round of 40 at Midland Golf Club in Kewanee. Galva’s boys (204 strokes) finished second to ROWVA-Williamsfield (202).
