Police reports

• EDELSTEIN – Ice was a factor in two two-vehicle accidents that took place within about 45 minutes of each other at the same location south of Edelstein.

No injuries were reported in either accident. Both took place Jan. 5 on Illinois Route 40, about one-quarter mile north of Hallock Hollow Road.

About 8 a.m., Angela M. Janey of Bradford was driving a 2005 Pontiac Vibe south on Route 40 when the vehicle began to slide, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. Eventually it slid into the rear of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Carrie L Thomas of Princeville.

Not long thereafter, Charity N. Turnbull of Toulon was driving a southbound 2012 Buick LaCrosse that slid into the rear of a 2019 Honda Civic driven by Cassidy R. Halsne of Henry.

Janey and Turnbull said they attempted to slow their vehicles, to no avail, according to sheriff’s-office reports. In both accidents, more than $1,500 in damage was reported, but no vehicles were towed.

• PEORIA – The vehicle of an Elmwood man was damaged after heavy equipment struck it in a Peoria County Highway Department lot.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. Dec. 23 at 6917 W. Plank Rd., according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.

Part of a county-owned 1996 John Deere 772 BH motor grader piloted by Dirk W. Jennings of Hanna City struck a parked 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owned by Harry G. McFall. He is a county employee, the report stated.

On Dec. 27, a sheriff’s-office deputy noted damage to the rear driver’s-side door and window of the Silverado, which still was parked in the lot. Jennings said he attempted to drive the grader into a shed, but a blade swung free and struck the Silverado. No injuries were reported. Damage exceeded $1,500.

• LAURA – A traffic stop resulted in a Laura man receiving two citations, according to authorities.
Charles A. Rice, 72, was driving a 2009 Mercury Milan when a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped him shortly before 7 p.m. Jan. 6 in the 1800 block of Illinois Route 78 in Laura. Rice was found to have a revoked driver’s license and no valid automobile insurance.

Rice’s vehicle was impounded, according to a sheriff’s-office report. A deputy transported Rice to his residence.

• BRIMFIELD – Someone drove a red Jeep into a fence outside a Brimfield-area residence, then drove away, according to authorities.

The incident happened about noon Dec. 31 in the 13200 block of N. Maher Rd. According to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report, two people – including one of the property owners – witnessed what happened and reported the vehicle license-plate number.

A Peoria man is the Jeep’s registered owner, but a deputy couldn’t contact him. The fence is about 20-30 yards from the road, per the report. The property owner estimated damage at $1,000.

• DUNLAP – About 5:30 p.m. Jan. 7, Kelsey S. Koller of Princeville was driving a 2015 Ford Escape south in the 11800 block of Illinois Route 40 when the vehicle struck a deer that entered the roadway from the east. The vehicle sustained more than $1,500 in damage, including a broken driver’s-side headlight assembly, a cracked front bumper and a bent hood, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. No injuries were reported, but the deer was found dead on the side of the road.

• BRIMFIELD – Shortly after 8 p.m. Jan. 4, Steven K. Specht of Galesburg was driving a 2007 GMC Envoy sport-utility vehicle west on Interstate 74 between Schlink and Thousand Dollar roads east of Brimfield when the SUV struck a deer. A female passenger then struck her head on a window, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The passenger received medical attention. The SUV sustained disabling front-end damage and was towed.

• HANNA CITY – Jason L. Corbett, 42, of Hanna City was arrested at 8 p.m. Jan. 10 and accused of driving on a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration and failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. Corbett also was being held on two Fulton County warrants.

• ELMWOOD – Christopher G. Berryman, 40, of Elmwood was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Jan. 6 and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• HANNA CITY – Alexander N. King, 21, of Hanna City was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 2 and accused of aggravated battery against a child younger than 13, aggravated domestic battery and endangering the life of a child, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• FARMINGTON – James S. Herr, 25, of Farmington was arrested shortly before midnight Jan. 1 on an unspecified Fulton County misdemeanor warrant. Herr was transported to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
