• FARMINGTON – A four-hour incident between law-enforcement representatives and a Farmington man ended with his arrest regarding an apparent domestic-violence case.
Farmington police officers were summoned about 6:45 p.m. Oct. 11 to an apartment in the 600 block of E. Fort St. There they saw and heard Ryan L. Sweet, 35, argue with a 44-year-old Farmington woman and saw him throw a 12-pack of soda pop at her as she was leaving, according to a police report.
The victim told officers Sweet squeezed her so hard she had trouble breathing. An ambulance transported her to Graham Hospital in Canton. Officers sought and received a warrant from Fulton County State’s Attorney Justin Jochums for Sweet’s arrest.
A special unit of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene after Farmington officers failed to get a response from Sweet. Special-unit officers entered the apartment about 10:45 p.m. and without incident took Sweet into custody.
Sweet was accused of battery and transported to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
• ELMWOOD – No injuries were reported in connection with a crash south of Elmwood that involved a local-police vehicle.
William L. Long of Canton was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck about 1:15 Oct. 14 that was eastbound on Graham Chapel Road when it turned left at Wiley Road and struck an Elmwood Police Department 2021 Dodge Durango that was stationary at a stop sign, according to the Illinois State Police.
Elmwood Officer Michael J. Darrah was the other driver. Both vehicles sustained damage to their driver’s-side doors and were towed. Long was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for improper lane use.
• DAHINDA – A DeKalb man reported missing was found knocking on a door of a Dahinda-area residence.
A 31-year-old man who resides in the 1900 block of U.S. Route 150 notified the Knox County Sheriff’s Office about 1 p.m. Sept. 30 regarding someone he spotted on his doorbell camera. The resident later saw the 58-year-old man walking nearby.
The sheriff’s office determined the man parked at the Spoon River Rest Area on Interstate 74 and then walked into the adjacent woods, according to a report. His vehicle, a 2011 Nissan Rogue, was found in the rest-area lot. The engine was running, the doors were unlocked and the man’s wallet was inside.
An ambulance transported the man to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg for treatment and observation. He was to be picked up there by his brother, an Oak Brook resident a deputy contacted.
• YATES CITY – A two-vehicle accident in Yates City resulted in no apparent injuries.
Shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sept. 30, Vonda Kay Brinker, 52, of Yates City was driving a 2019 Ford Edge south in the 100 block of N. Union St. when her vehicle struck a 2012 Ford Expedition XLT driven by 67-year-old Kenneth A. Nelson of Farmington, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.
Nelson was backing his vehicle into the roadway at the time of the accident. Brinker’s vehicle sustained moderate damage to its rear passenger-side door, and the Expedition sustained minor damage to its left-rear bumper. Both vehicles were drivable.
• La FAYETTE – An Oak Run man required a trip to the hospital following a single-vehicle accident west of La Fayette.
Isaiah H. Greenfield, 18, was driving a southbound 2016 BMW 320i about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 29 on Illinois Route 180 one-quarter mile north of Centerville Road when he fell asleep, a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The vehicle left the pavement, entered an east-side ditch and struck a tree.
Greenfield said he bumped his head, although there were no signs of apparent injury. An ambulance transported him to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. The vehicle sustained more than $1,500 in damage and was towed.
• VICTORIA – Sun in the eyes of a driver from Oak Run led to a two-vehicle crash west of Victoria, according to authorities.
At 11:45 a.m. Sept. 29, Jeffrey R. Rohman, 64, was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck north on Knox Highway 12 when it collided at Illinois Route 167 with a westbound 2007 Chevrolet Impala. Russel G. Holman, 66, of Victoria was the other driver, per a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.
Rohman said the sun prevented him from seeing Holman’s vehicle and he drove through the intersection without stopping. An ambulance transported Holman to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg for unspecified treatment. Rohman and his passenger, a 60-year-old Oak Run woman, reported no injuries.
Both vehicles were drivable, although the Impala sustained more than $1,500 in damage. Rohman was cited for failure to heed a traffic-control device.
• RAPATEE – A Hanna City man said a dog bit him as he was attempting to deliver a package at a Rapatee-area residence.
The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29 along Knox Road 1600 East near Knox Road 50 North. As the 24-year-old delivery driver handed the package to the 50-year-old resident, a tan Rottweiler mix ran from a nearby horse pasture and bit the victim in the right forearm.
According to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report, the victim was to seek medical treatment. The dog owner said the animal had not bitten anybody previously. The dog received rabies shots in 2023 at a Farmington veterinary clinic. The sheriff’s-office animal-control division was notified.
• HANNA CITY – A Mapleton woman whose vehicle rear-ended one that was parked in a Hanna City driveway reported no injuries.
The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at a residence in the 300 block of N. Lakeshore Drive, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. Edie L. Barrick was pulling a 2019 Ford Fiesta into the driveway when her foot slipped off the brake pedal.
Although Barrick attempted to re-apply the brake, her vehicle rolled into the back of a parked 2023 GMC Terrain sport-utility vehicle, the report stated. The SUV sustained functional rear-bumper damage. Minor damage to the front license plate of the Fiesta was reported.
• BELLEVUE – A two-vehicle collision near Bellevue resulted in two people, including a Farmington girl, needing hospital attention.
Shortly before 9:45 p.m. Sept. 28, Jesse Ebert of Farmington was driving a 2013 Honda Accord on eastbound Interstate 474 near Exit 3A when the vehicle rear-ended a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse. Jazmin Divison of Peoria was the other driver, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Divison said she was experiencing vehicle trouble, activated its hazard lights and slowed to about 15 mph. Ebert said he was looking at clouds illuminated by lights from the nearby Peoria international airport. The impact turned the Traverse in the opposite direction, and the Accord came to rest in a ditch.
Ebert’s juvenile passenger, whose age was not listed, sustained head and neck pain and was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Divison sustained neck and back injuries and was transported to Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria. Both vehicles received major damage and were towed.
• EDWARDS – Donald J. Wozniak, 36, of Edwards was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. Oct. 12 and accused of violating an order of protection, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• GALESBURG – These were among calls to which the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded between Sept. 29-Oct. 5: animal in roadway, Galva; harassment, Dahinda; suspicious incident, Dahinda; burglar alarm, Dahinda; animal in roadway, Yates City; suspicious incident, Williamsfield; threats, Yates City; vehicle fire, Williamsfield.
