Princeville 2-year-old wanders off from home

PRINCEVILLE – A 2-year-old boy not dressed for cold weather wandered from his residence to another, apparently in search of Princeville Grade School.

The incident happened about 10 a.m. Dec. 8, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. A woman who resides on North Town Avenue heard a light tapping at her front door. The child at the door said he was looking for an orange building, the same color as the grade school, where his siblings were.

According to a heavily redacted sheriff’s-office report, the child was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt, pajama pants and shoes caked in mud. The temperature was about 29 degrees. The woman gave the boy a blanket and some water, then transported him to the grade-school front office.

Deputies performed a welfare check at the boy’s residence, in the 100 block of E. Craig St., about one-half mile from where the boy was found.

The front door of the Craig Street apartment was open and the residence had dirty clothes and dishes scattered everywhere, according to the report. There also was a distinct odor.

A woman inside the residence said she didn’t realize the boy was missing. She arrived at the school about 11 a.m. and transported the boy home. A deputy contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Police reports
• FARMINGTON – A Farmington man was accused of beating his 16-year-old brother, who ended up in a hospital emergency room.

Christopher R. Roper, 26, was implicated in the incident, which took place at a residence in the 100 block of S. Main St. in Farmington. City police officers were notified shortly after 2 a.m. Dec. 4.

A private vehicle transported the victim, who resides in Delavan, to UnityPoint Health-Pekin. According to a Farmington Police Department report, the victim had abrasions on his elbow and left forearm and under his right eye. He also had a scratch on his upper-left thumb and a possible broken toe.

Roper was arrested for domestic battery and transported to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.

• PRINCEVILLE – Someone smashed a vehicle into the rear end of another parked along a Princeville thoroughfare, according to two witnesses.

The accident happened about 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the 600 block of N. Town Ave. A red Chevrolet Malibu collided with a 2012 Nissan Altima parked legally on the southbound side of the street, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.

Both witnesses said the Malibu reversed and continued south afterward. One witness said the driver was a heavy-set white male, probably in his late 40s. There was a front-seat passenger and three children in the back seat. The other witness said the Malibu’s front hood was curled in the collision

The Altima’s rear bumper was punctured and the car’s exhaust pipes were pushed upward, the report stated. One of the witnesses alerted the vehicle owner. Damage was estimated at more than $1,500.

• TRIVOLI – A Trivoli man’s vehicle rear-ended another as it was stopped to make a left turn, authorities stated.

About 8:15 a.m. Dec. 1, Logan P. Dean was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota east on Farmington Road about one-quarter mile east of Trivoli Road when the vehicle struck the back of a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas. Its driver was Deborah K. Wagler of Trivoli.

Dean said he didn’t see Wagler’s vehicle, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s report. A deputy noted the windshield of the Dakota was covered with frost and ice. Dean was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Both drivers refused medical treatment.

• PEORIA – A Farmington man was cited in a two-vehicle accident that took place near the Peoria international airport.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Nov. 30, Dustin P. Williams was turning a 2012 Toyota sport-utility vehicle west onto Plank Road from northbound Airport Road when the SUV collided with a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Steven M. Curless of Peoria, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. Curless’ vehicle was southbound on Airport Road.

An ambulance transported Williams to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for evaluation. He had no apparent injuries, the report stated. Neither did Curless, but two of his five passengers were transported to St. Francis. The other passengers refused medical treatment.

Williams was accused of making an improper left turn into oncoming traffic. His vehicle sustained significant damage to its front, according to the report.

• PRINCEVILLE – A 20-year-old man was accused of alcohol-related offenses following a single-vehicle accident south of Princeville.

Gavin Abbott, whose hometown was unavailable, sustained facial and hand lacerations because of the accident. It happened about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 in the 18700 block of N. Mendenhall Rd.

According to his 18-year-old male passenger, Abbott was driving about 90 mph northbound when he lost control of the vehicle. It struck a utility pole in an east-side ditch, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.

The passenger was transported to UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria. Abbott was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. There, Abbott denied driving 90 mph but admitted he was distracted. He also said he had one or two beers about 2 p.m.

Inside Abbott’s vehicle were found two empty cans and two full cans of Twisted Tea alcoholic beverages, the report stated.

Abbott was cited for illegal transportation of alcohol, being a minor in possession of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

• BRIMFIELD – A vintage vehicle sustained apparent hit-and-run damage while parked in the lot of a Brimfield automotive business, according to authorities.

Right-rear fender damage to the 1986 Ford LTD Crown Victoria parked at Satterfield Automotive, 408 E. Knoxville St., was reported about 10:45 a.m. Nov. 21, per the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. The business owner said the damage happened sometime during the previous weekend.

• HANNA CITY – Shortly before 6 a.m. Dec. 1, Shane L. Jepson of Hanna City was driving a 2017 Toyota Tundra east in the 9300 block of W. Smithville Rd. when the vehicle struck a deer. The vehicle sustained more than $1,500 in damage, including the driver’s-side front bumper, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. Jepson reported no injuries and drove away.

• BRIMFIELD – Keith A. Lilley, 46, of Brimfield was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 11 and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• ELMWOOD – Agnes S. Garner, 41, of Elmwood was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Dec. 8 and accused of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• HANNA CITY – Todd E. Werenburg, 59, of Hanna City was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 7 and accused of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

• EDWARDS – Cormac W. Flanagan, 49, of Edwards was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol; illegal transportation of alcohol; improper stopping, parking or standing; and resisting/obstructing a peace officer, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
