• PRINCEVILLE – A Princeville man accused of punching his girlfriend fought a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy when apprehended, according to a report.
Justin J. Juarez, 33, was captured about 9:45 p.m. Oct. 25 at Casey’s, 105 E. Spring St. in Princeville. He was wanted regarding a domestic-battery incident Oct. 23 at a residence in the 19200 block of N. Mendenhall Rd., just south of Princeville. Juarez fled there on a stolen bicycle, per the sheriff’s office.
The deputy recognized Juarez outside the convenience store and followed him inside. Juarez refused to provide his name when asked, then resisted the deputy’s attempts to restrain him as they fell.
A man with Juarez approached them, but the deputy drew his Taser and the man backed away, according to the report. Eventually, deputies brought Juarez under control. After he complained of breathing problems, Juarez was transported to Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
Later, Juarez was transported to the Peoria County Jail. There he was booked on charges of domestic battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a peace officer. Juarez also was wanted for telephone harassment and failure to appear in court.
• PRINCEVILLE – A Laura man wanted for violating an order of protection was arrested in Princeville and accused of other crimes as well.
A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Scott E. Garretts, 42, while he was aboard a Harley-Davidson motorcycle about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the 200 block of E. Evans St.
Found in Garretts’ possession were three sets of brass knuckles, a switchblade knife, a bandanna with a cue ball knotted inside it and a phentermine hydrochloride pill, according to a sheriff’s-office report. The last item is a weight-loss drug classified as a controlled substance.
Garretts was transported to the Peoria County Jail. In addition to the original warrant, Garretts was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.
• HANNA CITY – A Trivoli woman intended to seek hospital attention following a two-vehicle crash west of Hanna City.
At 3:45 p.m. Oct. 18, Brock A. Bitner of Hanna City was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe east in the 11900 block of Illinois Route 116 when the vehicle rear-ended a 2018 Ford Fusion. Its driver was Katherine J. Prisby, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Prisby said her vehicle and several other vehicles were stopped behind a school bus at the time of the accident. A witness confirmed her account. Bitner said he didn’t see Prisby’s vehicle and wasn’t sure what happened. Prisby was to seek medical evaluation at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
• PRINCEVILLE – A faulty lawnmower probably caused a fire that destroyed a shed at a Princeville residence, according to authorities.
The blaze began not long before 8 p.m. Oct. 20 in the 500 block of W. Main St. Akron-Princeville firefighters extinguished the flames in minutes, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The homeowner said he was at work when he saw smoke emanating from his residence.
According to the report, the 22-year-old homeowner said he purchased the property in September and had not been inside the shed. The lawnmower engine appeared to be the fire source. No damage estimate was available.
• FARMINGTON – A traffic stop in Farmington resulted in an Elmwood woman being cited for multiple vehicle-related violations.
Brandy M. Roberts, 41, was pulled over while driving a 2016 Ford about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 20 in the 300 block of N. Lightfoot Rd. because a Farmington police officer noticed her license plates expired in August 2022, according to a report.
Roberts was accused of operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a vehicle with expired registration and operating a vehicle with a suspended, revoked or canceled license. She is to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown.
• HANNA CITY – A Hanna City woman was accused of causing about $1,000 in damage to a vehicle following an argument.
Megan M. Royer, 35, was implicated in the incident, which took place sometime before 9 a.m. Oct. 9 at a residence in the 200 block of N. Pekin Lane. The male victim said he and Royer argued as he was giving her a ride to her grandmother’s, per a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim said Royer pulled off the rear-windshield wiper of his vehicle, a 2007 Buick sedan. Royer also was accused of breaking the passenger-side front-door handle, pulling off the front license plate and throwing two rocks at the vehicle. A deputy documented the damage, the report stated.
Royer denied the victim’s claims and said the damage was done earlier. She was cited for criminal damage to property and received a notice to appear Nov. 22 in Peoria County Circuit Court.
• BRIMFIELD – A Brimfield man was accused of multiple traffic violations after he was pulled over for suspected drunken driving.
The vehicle Pierre F. McFadden, 39, was driving about 7 p.m. Oct. 4 was weaving on westbound Interstate 74 before it exited at Maher Road, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. A deputy found McFadden’s license was revoked for multiple cases of driving while intoxicated.
McFadden said he was test-driving the vehicle for his son. Inside the vehicle, deputies found an open bottle of Patron Tequila, a plastic cup that contained the booze and a partially smoked marijuana cigarette. McFadden’s blood-alcohol content was .064, below the .08 DUI threshold.
A deputy issued McFadden citations for driving on a revoked license, improper lane use and illegal transportation of alcohol. He is to appear Tuesday in Peoria County Circuit Court.
• OAK RUN – No injuries were reported in a single-vehicle accident in Oak Run. At 8 p.m. Sept. 30, Kent E. Wanninger, 70, of Oak Run was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southeast on Cottonwood Drive when he attempted a sharp-left turn near Manson Heights Road. The vehicle struck left-side fencing and bushes, per a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.
The vehicle sustained rear driver’s-side damage but was drivable. Wanninger had one passenger, a 32-year-old Dahinda man.
• DOUGLAS – Shortly before 2:15 a.m. Oct. 12, Jeremy S. Moore, 39, of Galesburg was driving a westbound 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Illinois Route 8 near Knox Road 1800 East when the vehicle struck a deer. Moore was uninjured, a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The vehicle sustained minimal damage and was drivable. The deer ran away.
• OAK HILL – At 5 a.m. Oct. 2, Blake J. Mattson of Trivoli was driving a northbound 2007 Kia Rondo on Texas Road north of May Road near Oak Hill when the vehicle struck a deer. Mattson said he wasn’t injured, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle sustained damage to its front bumper, driver’s-side fender and both driver’s-side doors but was drivable. The deer could not be located.
• ELMWOOD – Samantha J. York, 36, of Elmwood was arrested about 5 a.m. Oct. 26 and accused of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• BRIMFIELD – Crystal L. Colvin, 38, of Brimfield was arrested about 6:30 a.m. Oct. 26 and accused of battery/bodily harm and resistance to an officer, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
• GALESBURG – These were among calls to which the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded between Oct. 15-21: suspicious person, Dahinda; damage, Dahinda; prowler, Yates City; domestic dispute, Oak Run; threats, Yates City.
