Damage from Princeville fire could top $500,000

PRINCEVILLE – Police and the Akron Princeville Fire Department, assisted by the Dunlap Fire Department were called to a fire on Feb. 12 after one of the building owners saw “heavy smoke coming from the Country Feed & Supply store” located in the 100 block of E. Spring St. according to a Sheriff’s report.

No one was in the building. There was fire damage to a wall and roof of the building. Damage to various farm and livestock equipment in Country Feed & Supply store was estimated at $75,000-$100,000.

Damage to tools and equipment used by TJC, a tire business that shares the building, was estimated at $56,000. TJC’s hydraulic lift may be affected by heat damage as well.

Cost for restructuring the building, if needed, could cost $500,000. Princeville Fire Department determined the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction near sawdust used for livestock bedding. The Illinois
State Fire Marshall will continue the investigation.

Police reports

PRINCEVILLE – Justin R. Talley, 28, of Princeville was charged on Feb. 18 for failure to appear with fee related to a charge of speeding 26-34 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

ELMWOOD – Elmwood police and the Elmwood Fire Department were called by a resident to investigate a strong odor of gas on Feb. 17, according to an Elmwood police report. The source of a gas leak was discovered in an alley between North Walnut and North Morgan Streets.
Ameren will repair the leak.

FARMINGTON – Brandon L. Parker, 22, of Farmington was seen
on camera stealing lottery tickets and money from a K9 donation bucket at
Circle K on Feb. 16, according to a Farmington police report. He was
charged with retail theft and theft of items under $500. More charges are pending related to the case. Parker was transported to Fulton County Jail.

PRINCEVILLE – A Princeville woman asked police to charge a Glasford man with trespassing the next time he is on her property. According to a Feb. 19 Peoria County Sheriff report, the man wouldn’t take “not interested” for an answer after offering repeatedly over a fourmonth period to cut down a dead tree.

PRINCEVILLE – Police are investigating a motor vehicle theft after a Princeville woman received a text from a Glasford man that said he took her Dodge pickup and was planning to return it, according to a Feb. 15 Sheriff report. Another text followed offering the woman $75 if she
didn’t call police. The woman told police the suspect never had permission
to use the car or access to the keys. She said the suspect must have found a spare set that was hidden.

BRIMFIELD – A Brimfield man was refunded his money after discovering
three checks written from his account were fraudulent, according
to a Feb. 22 Sheriff report. Investigation of the checks, each written for
$500 to the same name, revealed they were not in the same format of the victim’s checks and the signatures didn’t match.

BRIMFIELD – A Brimfield woman fell victim to a Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes scam. According to a Feb. 18 report by the Peoria County Sheriff’s department. The woman was told over the phone
that she had won $10,000, but to receive the winnings, she had to send
$400 worth of gift cards. When she continued to receive more calls for
gift cards, she realized it was a scam.

Accidents
• Jeffrey R. Taylor of Fairview struck a deer on Feb. 15 while traveling
southbound on Kickapoo-Edwards Road at Fox Chapel Road.

• Noel J. Lundell of Brimfield struck a deer on Feb. 14 while traveling
northbound on Kickapoo-Edwards Road at Western Avenue.
