• HANNA CITY – An Elmwood man was found dead about 2:30 a.m. on March 22 behind dumpsters at a business in the 12900 block of W. Farmington Rd., according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
Keith A. Siegel, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Security-camera footage indicated Siegel might have fallen from a retaining wall and struck his head. An autopsy revealed Siegel died from traumatic closed-head injuries, according to the Peoria County Coroner’s Office. Toxicology results are pending.
About four hours earlier on March 21 at 10:45 p.m., and about a block south of where Siegel’s body was found, sheriff’s-office deputies were summoned regarding a truck found in a ditch in the 200 block of N. Third St. Witnesses said the likely driver, identified as Siegel, fled the scene on foot.
The coroner’s and sheriff’s offices were continuing to investigate. Logan-Trivoli firefighters also responded.
• ELMWOOD – A 17-year-old Farmington boy was accused of drunken driving following a single-vehicle accident in Elmwood.
The boy was driving an eastbound 2017 Chrysler Pacifica about 11:45 p.m. March 15 in the 300 block of W. Butternut St. when both passenger-side tires popped, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. That caused him to lose control of the vehicle, which struck a median and landed in a parking lot.
No injuries to the driver nor his male passenger were reported. The vehicle sustained extensive passenger-side front-end damage and was towed.
• HANNA CITY – A Hanna City man was accused of criminal trespassing after a local man held him at gunpoint, according to authorities.
The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. March 9 at a residence in the 100 block of N. Luellyn Place, according to a heavily redacted Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. Matthew H. Walsh, 25, received a notice to appear in Peoria County Circuit Court. No details were available.
• DUNLAP – No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle crash in Dunlap that involved drivers from Edwards.
At 8 a.m. March 4, Jack A. Hohenbery was driving a 2015 Buick sedan north on Fourth Street at Legion Hall Road when the vehicle rear-ended a 2012 Hyundai sedan, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Kaitlyn N. Glover was the other driver. She said a vehicle in front of hers stopped suddenly, which caused her to do the same. Hohenbery wasn’t able to stop in time. Both vehicles were drivable.
• PEORIA HEIGHTS – An Edwards man had a blood-alcohol level almost three times the legal limit following a traffic stop in Peoria Heights.
Karl A. Edwards IV, 32, was driving a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Prism about 1:45 a.m. March 1 on Wisconsin Avenue near Wilson Avenue when a Peoria Heights police officer noticed the vehicle drifting from its lane, according to a report.
Edwards’ BAC level was .219; the legal limit is .08. Edwards was cited for improper lane use and for two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was impounded.
• FARMINGTON – A field fire about one mile west of Farmington resulted in no injuries.
The incident along Illinois Route 116 was reported about 3:30 p.m. March 2, according to the Farmington Community Fire Protection District. The resident was conducting a burn that got out of control and ignited stubble in an adjacent cornfield.
It took firefighters about 10 minutes to douse the flames, which covered about 2 acres.
• OAK HILL – An Oak Hill woman believes she was scammed by someone who gave her an incomplete tattoo.
The 44-year-old victim reported the incident about 11 a.m. March 2, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. A report about the incident was heavily redacted, but it appeared the woman was unable to get in touch with the tattoo artist. A deputy’s contact attempts also were unsuccessful.
According to the report, the woman paid the tattoo artist $280.
• HANNA CITY – No injuries or damage were reported from a field fire south of Hanna City.
The large-scale fire in a cornfield in the 400 block of S. Taylor Rd. was reported about 2:45 p.m. March 2. A heavily redacted Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report indicated firefighters from the Limestone and Logan-Trivoli departments extinguished the blaze.
• OAK RUN – A Peoria man required hospital attention following a single-vehicle accident south of Oak Run. Jasin X. Algarin, 19, was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck about 7:15 a.m. Feb. 28 in the 1400 block of Knox Highway 12 when he swerved to avoid a dark-colored Dodge Challenger that was headed directly at his vehicle, a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report stated.
When a deputy found Algarin, he was in the driver’s seat of the pickup truck, which was about 20 feet off the pavement in a ditch. Algarin said the other driver was looking down at a cellphone.
Algarin had no visible injuries but complained about head pain from hitting the pickup-truck steering wheel. An ambulance transported Algarin to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. The vehicle was undamaged.
• OAK HILL – Rocks falling from the back of a dump trailer damaged an Elmwood man’s vehicle, according to authorities.
The incident happened Jan. 25 on Illinois Route 8 between Oak Hill and Edwards, according to an Elmwood Police Department report. The victim was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck that was trailing a semi-trailer truck that was pulling a rock-filled dump trailer.
Damage to the pickup truck’s windshield, both parking lights and the grille was estimated at $1,500.
• FARMINGTON – Gary L. Martin, 47, of Farmington was arrested Feb. 25 on an outstanding Fulton County warrant regarding a 2012 case of aggravated domestic battery. After Martin paid $530 in bond and fees, he was released, according to Farmington police. He received a notice to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown.
• EDWARDS – Shortly before 5:45 a.m. March 6, Jeremy R. Paul of Peoria was driving a northbound 2002 Honda sport-utility vehicle in the 5600 block of N. Kickapoo-Edwards Rd. when the vehicle struck a deer. A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report didn’t state if Paul was injured. The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed.
• WEST PEORIA – Shortly after 5:45 p.m. March 4, Roger K. Holmstrom of Farmington was driving a westbound 2015 Toyota Camry in the 2500 block of Farmington Rd. when his vehicle struck a deer. Holmstrom didn’t need medical attention, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle sustained damage but was drivable. A deputy dispatched the deer.
• NORWOOD – Shortly after 10 p.m. March 3, Derek C. Barlow of Farmington was driving a westbound 2016 Ford Fusion in the 13100 block of W. Farmington Rd. when the vehicle struck a dead deer on the pavement. A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report did not state if Barlow was injured. The vehicle sustained minor damage but was drivable.
