• PRINCEVILLE – A Princeville man was transported to a Peoria hospital after his hand was caught in machinery at a local food-processing plant.
The accident happened about 8 a.m. Aug. 21 at Seneca Foods Corp., 606 S. Tremont Ave. The 37-year-old victim, who wasn’t identified by name, was replacing a shield on a dried-pumpkin-seed auger when it caught his right hand, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
Someone freed the victim’s hand from the auger, which was not shut off, per protocol, the report stated. Personnel from the Akron-Princeville fire and ambulance departments responded. A large amount of the victim’s skin was ripped from his hand, according to a sheriff’s-office deputy.
The victim was conscious and alert before he was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. There was no further word about his condition.
• KICKAPOO – A man was accused of battery following an incident at a Kickapoo-area gasoline station.
Employees of Freedom Oil Co., 7200 N. Kickapoo-Edwards Rd., said they saw Terry R. Abbott, 59, grab a woman’s hair and slap her in the face about 3:15 p.m. Aug. 12, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.
The 39-year-old victim said Abbott was driving her home to Kewanee when his car broke down. An ensuing argument escalated. Afterward, a deputy found Abbott walking along Interstate 74 toward Brimfield.
Abbott received a notice to appear Sept. 20 in Peoria County Circuit Court. His hometown was unavailable.
• FARMINGTON – A rural-Farmington driver was implicated in a hit-and-run vehicle crash in a local supermarket parking lot.
Cody A. VanMiddlesworth, 18, was behind the wheel of a 2005 Honda Civic at County Market, 1090 E. Fort St., when it backed into a 2014 Nissan Rogue about 5:45 p.m. Aug. 10, according to a witness.
VanMiddlesworth then drove away, a Farmington police report stated.
Later, an officer located VanMiddlesworth at his residence.
VanMiddlesworth said he thought he backed his vehicle into a pole. He was cited for leaving the scene of an accident with only damage to a vehicle. VanMiddlesworth is to appear Sept. 15 in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown.
• BARTONVILLE – A Hanna City woman reported no injuries following a two-vehicle accident west of Bartonville.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Aug. 2, Amy L. Evans was driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue east on Lancaster Road and was attempting a northbound turn onto Lake Lancelot Drive when a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Impala crashed into the front-right portion of her vehicle.
The other driver, Collin M. Cochran of Mapleton, said he did not see Evans turning as he began to enter the intersection, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. Cochran’s vehicle sustained minor damage. Evans’ vehicle required a tow after it received extensive right-front quarter-panel damage.
• BELLEVUE – A Dunlap driver rear-ended a Hanna City man’s vehicle west of Bellevue, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
Wiley O. Holt was driving an eastbound 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was pulling a trailer about 1:30 p.m. July 25 in the 6900 block of W. Plank Rd. when it slowed for a turning vehicle. A 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Shelby M. Ford couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting the trailer.
Neither Ford nor Holt was injured, according to a sheriff’s-office report. Both vehicles and the trailer were damaged but drivable.
• HANNA CITY – A two-vehicle collision northwest of Hanna City resulted in two people requiring hospital attention in Peoria.
The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. July 23 at Eden and Sommerfield roads. Per a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report, Susan M. Crowe of Trivoli was driving a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe that stopped eastbound on Sommerfield Road at the intersection.
Crowe began to turn south on Eden Road when her female passenger yelled at her to stop because a southbound vehicle was approaching. That vehicle, a 1007 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, collided with the front section of Crowe’s.
The Ram driver was Edward F. Lindsay of Trivoli.
Ambulances transported Crowe and her passenger to Carle Health Methodist Hospital. Crowe sustained whiplash, left-neck bruises and ankle and knee pain. The passenger had elbow and shoulder pain and a small cut on her head. Lindsay sustained minor shin and head cuts and declined hospital transport.
Lindsay said he couldn’t remember seeing the other vehicle before impact, according to the report. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed. A dog in Lindsay’s vehicle was uninjured.
• OAK HILL – A combine was reported stolen from property southeast of Oak Hill. The apparent theft took place Aug. 21 in the 16100 block of W. Wolford Rd., according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. No other information was available. The sheriff’s office cited an ongoing investigation in refusing to release a copy of the incident report.
• KICKAPOO – At 1 a.m. Aug. 11, Leroy E. Dunbar of Edwards was driving a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis south on Princeville-Jubilee Road near Jubilee Hollow Court north of Kickapoo when the vehicle struck a deer. Dunbar said he was uninjured, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle sustained minor damage to its grille and driver’s-side headlight.
• PRINCEVILLE – At 8 p.m. Aug. 5, James P. Messersmith of Princeville was driving a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Illinois Route 90 about one-quarter mile east of Maher Road when the vehicle struck a deer that emerged from the south. Messersmith and his two passengers were not injured, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. The truck sustained damage to the driver’s-side front fender, doors and bed.
• ELMWOOD – Amy Jo Wilson, 42, of Elmwood was arrested about 7:15 a.m. Aug. 21 and was being held for another law-enforcement agency, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
