• PEORIA – An Edwards woman appeared to avoid injury from a single-vehicle accident northwest of Peoria.

Elizabeth J. Burtker was behind the wheel of a 2022 Buick Enclave that was turning from westbound Grange Hall Road onto southbound Orange Prairie Road shortly before 2:15 a.m. Sept. 8 when a deer jumped onto the pavement from the west.

Burtker swerved to avoid the deer, but the vehicle struck a stop sign on the south side of the intersection, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report. She declined medical attention. The vehicle sustained damage to the front driver’s-side headlight and bumper and was towed.

• PEORIA – A Kickapoo woman was accused of driving under the influence of cannabis and alcohol in Peoria.

Aliza G. Welker, 20, was behind the wheel of a 2016 Jeep Patriot about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 5 when a Peoria police officer stopped it in the 100 block of NE Washington St. The vehicle was weaving and Welker failed to use a turn signal, according to a police report.

The vehicle interior smelled of cannabis, which Welker admitted smoking. Welker’s blood-alcohol content was .091. The legal limit is .08.

Welker was accused of DUI, improper traffic-lane use and improper turn-signal use. She was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

• BRIMFIELD – A Brimfield man was accused of damaging a vehicle windshield at an area residence.
A Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy was summoned about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 3 to the 19000 block of U.S. Route 150 regarding earlier trouble with a male, according to a heavily redacted report.
Edwinn D. Strong, 18, was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Sept. 3 and charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to government property. Damage to the windshield, on a 2011 Chevrolet sedan, was estimated at $500.

• YATES CITY – Repeated alleged harassment of a Yates City woman resulted in two juveniles being banned from her property.

The incidents in the 400 block of N. Burson St. were reported about 5:15 p.m. Sept. 2. The 51-year-old resident said the boys were riding their bicycles on her property, disturbing her animals and using obscene words and hand gestures, according to a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report.

A deputy contacted the boys, age 9 and 12, and their parents. The boys were told about the ban. They also were told to write letters of apology to the victim and deliver them to the Yates City Police Department, the report stated.

• ELMORE – A Pekin man was accused of domestic battery in connection with an incident at an Elmore residence.

David A. Carson, 44, was arrested about 7:45 a.m. Sept. 1, not long after a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at a residence in the 24300 block of W. Spring St.

According to a redacted report, there were at least three witnesses. An ambulance apparently transported someone to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

• EDWARDS – Both drivers declined medical treatment after a two-vehicle wreck north of Edwards.
About 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1, Gayla J. Hickerson of Rock Island was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Galante south on Kickapoo-Edwards Road and stopped to turn left onto the eastbound entrance ramp of Interstate 74. A southbound 1995 Buick Regal rear-ended her vehicle, per a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report.

The other driver was Braden D. Wagner of Brimfield. He said he looked down, then looked up and didn’t have time to stop. Both vehicles sustained bumper damage but were drivable.

• TRIVOLI – A head-on, side-swiping vehicle accident east of Trivoli resulted in no apparent injuries.
Matthew J. Bohm of Washington was driving an eastbound 2014 Ford Fusion about 5:30 a.m. Aug. 30 in the 15400 block of Illinois Route 116 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2014 Volkswagen Passat.

Nicholas L. Grafelman of East Peoria was the other driver, a Peoria County Sheriff’s Office report stated. Both vehicles stopped on the north edge of the pavement. Both sustained disabling front-end damage and were towed.

• TRIVOLI – Michael L. Woods, 42, of Trivoli was arrested at 3:45 a.m. Sept. 15 and accused of two counts of failure to appear in court, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. Woods also was being held for another law-enforcement agency.
