FARMINGTON – The Farmington Police Department will soon have a new way to remain compliant with changing law-enforcement regulations.

The Farmington City Council on Monday voted to approve an agreement with Lexipol, an online service that provides up-to-date, state-specific policing policies and training opportunities.

Farmington will pay $2,172 for the remainder of this fiscal year (through April 30) and $5,212.80 for Fiscal Year 2025 service.

“Our general orders need to be revamped either using Lexipol or a local attorney,” Farmington Chief Chris Darsham said before the vote.

Farmington Attorney Bill Connor advised that the service was worthwhile.

“It’s an industry that gets a lot of pressure on it and it’s a good idea for the city to get this,” he said.

Following a closed session, the City Council approved bonuses for city staff: $500 for full-time employees and $250 for part-timers.

Mayor Kenn Stufflebeam noted “this is the end of the ARPA, COVID-era money” and said future bonuses may be scaled back.

The council also discussed the possible purchase of a skid steer for city operations staff. A decision was made to rent equipment as needed or to hire local contractor Keith Dollar, who recently completed a earthmoving project for the city.

“It’s hard to justify buying a skid steer and all the attachments you would need,” Alderman Alex Gilles said.
During committee reports, the council heard that leaf collection will continue in Farmington for the first two weeks of December.

New police officer Joe Roller has passed his physical and will start at police academy on Jan. 6.
