Galva council meets, library opens

GALVA – A public hearing was held Tuesday at City Hall for Mary’s Family Dining. The hearing was held for the City of Galva to apply for a CDBG grant for $25,000 for the establishment.

The council then held a special city council with zoom over the computers with all of the council members present.

They approved the resolution of support and passed the participation to apply for the grant.

Mary’s Family Dining was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and just opened last Friday evening for the bar only with outside tables.

• Library opens – The Galva Library has re-opened, but is not open to the public yet. Hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 1-5 p.m.

Patrons may go on the internet galvalibrary.org and see what books are available and then call (309) 932-2180 to arrange pick-up. Hours of curbside pick-up are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The staff is working on an online summer reading program which is expected to start the middle of July. This year’s theme is “Dig Deeper-Read, Investigate and Discover.” More details will be coming as the program is completed.

• City cleanup – The City of Galva will have a clean-up week June 22-27 for Galva residents only.

Residents are asked to bring items to Galva’s Maintenance Yard to be placed in a roll off which will be provided by Eagle Enterprises. Assistance will be available Monday June 22-25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the handicapped or those not able to take items to the maintenance yard from
