Princeville to set water deposit

PRINCEVILLE – The Village Board last week (June 16) discussed establishing a new deposit fee for new water customers, and by consensus seemed to favor $100. Trustees asked Village lawyers to draft an ordinance to be considered at the board’s next meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 6.

Previously, Princeville had no required deposit, Village President Jeff Troutman said. A follow-up discussion related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic recognized that the state’s “Restore Illinois” is proceeding and was expected to relax some restrictions when it enters Phase 4 on Friday (June 26), so the Board is not planning to take other action, Troutman said.

“We’re going to follow the schedule the state recommends,” he said. The Board did discuss the procedure for setting curfews and declaring emergencies, and specifically granting the Village President that authority, and again requested its lawyers to produce sample language for Trustees to consider July 6. In other action:

• The Board approved a six-month extension with Adam Merrick Realty to continue to list Aten Acres Phase-6 lots, Troutman said. He noted that, “They’re changing their marketing strategy”; and
• Trustees voted to donate $500 to the Princeville-to-Peoria St. Jude Run, the same amount as for last year’s sponsorship. BILL KNIGHT can be reached at bill.knight@hotmail.com
