TOULON – Toulon City parks could see an upgrade if a $750,000 grant application is approved.
The council met Monday for a special meeting and voted 4-2 to use the $750,000 to refurbish Toulon’s city park and add a splash pad for children. An alternate site for the grant money were the city’s baseball fields, located east of the Stark County High School property.
After discussion, the council approved directing the grant money from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, if awarded, to the city park. Connie Jacobson, Art Nutzhorn, Brandon Simpson and Michael Schott voted “yes” while Donna Lefler and Ryan Kelly voted “no.”
The council also passed a motion to give permission to Mayor Larry Hollis to accept bids regarding the Motor Fuel Tax program. This gives Hollis the authority to open bids and decide which bid to accept for the sealcoating and chipping of designated city streets this year. Bids were to be opened Thursday, Aug. 3.
Finally, the council donated $1,700 to the Toulon Old Settlers’ Association for this year’s celebration.
