Brimfield girls ranked 4th

The Brimfield girls basketball team is making the most out of an unpredictable season, going 9-0 so far and earning a No. 4 ranking in the state according to the latest Associated Press poll.
The Lady Indians topped Canton on Feb. 17, 44-29, with Haley Wallace leading with 16 points followed by Ella Lune with 10. Brimfield then beat Farmington last Thursday on its Senior Night, 57-46.
“Farmington shot really well, but we put on our press with four minutes to go and created some distance,” Coach Maribeth Dura said, “It was a good game.”
Lune led the Lady Indians to victory with 26 points followed by Wallace with 14.
On Saturday, Brimfield won over South Fulton 53-34 in a game with 35 fouls.
“There were a lot of free throws in that game,” Dura said.
Wallace had 25 points to lead the Lady Indians with Lune scoring 11.
Brimfield won big over North Fulton Monday 71-36. Wallace scored 16 and Lune had 13.
The Lady Indians will travel to play state ranked A-town today, Feb. 25.
“We need to come out and play four quarters and not let down on defense.” Dura said.
Brimfield will then play Bushnell-Prairie City Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Lewistown on Monday.
Farmington
The Lady Farmers (4-2) had a good game on Senior Night Saturday against Bushnell-PC, winning 55-42.
“We had a lot of people step up and play big,” Coach Bradley Whitcomb said.
Among those were Delaney Foster, who led Farmington with 19 points, and Reece Putrich with 16.
Prior to that, Farmington’s 57-46 loss to Brimfield last Thursday was also a strong effort.
“It was a five-point game the entire time and it was very fun and exciting to be a part of,” Whitcomb said, “We played phenomenal but we ran out of time.”
Emma Vallas led Farmington with 12 points followed by Putrich with 9 and Foster with 8.
“We had a really balanced scoring, something that we have had all season.” Whitcomb said.
The Lady Farmers beat Elmwood 34-20 Monday. Vallas led with 15 points.
Farmington was to play Knoxville Thursday and then A-Town Monday.
Elmwood
The Lady Trojans had solid games against some solid foes.
Elmwood (0-5) lost to Knoxville last Thursday, 50-32.
“We played pretty well but we got tired and lost our legs in the fourth,” Coach Gregg Meyers said. “A couple shots needed to fall but didn’t.”
Paige Svymberskyled with 8 points.
Elmwood was defeated by Rowva-Williamsfield 43-37 on Saturday.
“We didn’t have a good first quarter but we were able to come back and make it close,” Meyers said.
Olivia Caldwell led with 15 points.
Finally, Elmwood suffered a defeat at the hands of Farmington on Monday, 34-20.
“We kept up in the first half but fell apart in the second.” Meyers said.
Caldwell led with 7.
Elmwood travels to Midwest Central Thursday and then faces Ridgewood on Saturday.
Princeville
The Lady Princes (3-2) controlled the court against Ridgewood Friday, 64-35.
Prior to that, Princeville was to play Galva on Feb. 16 but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Lady Princes were to play Monmouth United Tuesday.
Princeville will be home vs. Illini Bluffs on Thursday and then faces West Central Saturday at home. Princeville will travel to compete against Mercer County Tuesday.
