Brimfield’s Lauren Coyle took the oath of office June 16 and joins President Steve Updyke, Mark Bell, Brent Graham, Patrick Meyer, Todd Johnson and Jason Snyder on the board. By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post FARMINGTON – The Farmington City Council on Monday voted unanimously to accept a bid from UCM, Inc., for upcoming resurfacing of Apple Street, First Avenue and Second Avenue. UCM of Tremont offered the lowest of two bids submitted for the resurfacing project, which is funded by Motor Fuel Taxes. The UCM bid of $483,361.45 was under an engineer’s estimate of $530,619 and well under the bid of $604,175.16 from Tazewell County Asphalt. Incidents & Accidents Stark County 6-14 – A rural Toulon resident reported an unoccupied wrecked vehicle located just south of 1100N and 200E. A note located on the extensively damaged van stated that the occupant(s) had sought to get help. Authorities had the vehicle towed and impounded. The incident remains under investigation. 6-14 – Blayze N. Ryder, 18, Neponset, was ticketed for disobeying a no passing zone. In a preliminary report, a ticket was issued in conjunction with a two-vehicle accident that occurred at Route 78 and Duncan Road. Elmwood man dies in one-vehicle collision ELMWOOD – A “medical event” may have been the cause of an Elmwood resident’s pickup truck leaving the road at the T-intersection of Graham Chapel and Dogtown Roads in Elmwood. The vehicle then hit the guide wire of a power line pole sometime before 5:45 a.m. on June 21, according to a Peoria County Sheriff’s report. The wire then pulled the pole down on the truck. My Place St. Jude event tops $130,000 By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post YATES CITY – Despite August heat in June and the lingering after-effects of a pandemic, Saturday’s My Place St. Jude Benefit managed to continue an impressive trend. Since the benefit began in 2003 with $1,000 raised for St. Jude, the amount of money generated during the one-day event in this town of 750 has increased every year.
