At Monday’s City Council meeting, the council gave tacit approval to Mayor Kent Kowal to exit a building contract with D. Joseph Construction. Hulslander wins four-man race for Elmwood mayor

By JEFF LAMPE For The Weekly Post Without a hotly contested presidential duel to fuel turnout, Tuesday’s consolidated election saw light voter turnout at most polling places and very few contested races in central Illinois. But there were still some races of interest, particularly in Elmwood, which was a relative hotbed for contested elections – a fact reflected in voter turnout that topped 41 percent in the city. Princeville board discusses Heritage Days

During its March 16 meeting, the village board heard discussions about the village’s annual Heritage Days event, which was not held last year but is currently being planned for June 24-27 at Princeville’s Stevens Square Park. This is the first contested mayoral contest in Elmwood since 2009, when John “JD’ Hulslander, then 32, defeated Bob Howard. Hulslander served two terms, before outgoing mayor Bryan Davis took over. The other candidates are Brandon Butler, 36, David Courson, 76, and Dave Ramsay, 56. Courson also served as Elmwood mayor, from 1979-83. Three times Farmington quarterback Josh McMillin managed to complete touchdown passes on fourth-down plays to account for his team’s scoring. And with the game on the line, Farmington’s defense stopped Knoxville on fourth-and-three from the Farmington 26-yard line with under a minute left to preserve a 20-14 win. Carlson coached his 700th varsity game last Friday in a 59-41 season-ending loss to Knoxville.
